OMNInet Secure Multimedia Network

Introduction | Flexibility | Reliability | Performance | Capacity

Introduction
The OMNInet multimedia signal switching architecture is a highly flexible, yet simple to configure networking system. OMNInet transports and manages video, audio, and data signals from multiple locations simultaneously, all within the same network platform. The fast data handling capability allows multiple complex signals to be efficiently processed giving unprecedented capability in critical path data management.

OMNInet  is an ideal solution when multiple data networks or signal types must be routed over wide areas and to multiple destinations. Self-healing, redundant, collapsible ring topologies can be implemented, providing the reliability and security of SONET and ATM networks at a fraction of their usual cost. Add/drop capabilities enable easy and cost effective expansion of an existing installation without requiring additional cabling.

PathMaster is the companion OMNInet system configuration and control software that uses a USB link for control and monitoring.

Flexibility
OMNInet is not limited to typical point-to-point solutions. In the same network platform, OMNInet converges video, audio and data in individual channels, on an add/drop basis for any-to-any routing. The network has a maximum of 256 Point of Presense (POP) nodes so very large capacity and widely distributed systems can be implemented. The POP14 accommodates 14 I/O modules and the POP4 accommodates 4 I/O modules.

Systems are simply expanded as requirements change by adding the appropriate services plug-in module to each node. If there is no demand for a specific service then no real estate on the node is consumed. Bandwidth is dynamically allocated to only the nodes in use. When additional modules are added to a node, only the bandwidth needed for the channel is allocated.

Reliability
For mission critical operations, an optional redundant power supply can be added to each node. In addition, the self-healing network functionality of OMNInet makes it one of the most reliable systems on the market.

Extensive automatic monitoring and reporting capabilities alert operators of communication breaks between nodes and will indicate power supply "out of tolerance" conditions anywhere on the network - prior to actual unit failure. The PathMaster application provides realtime monitoring and is used to create input or output assignments, control matrix routing, configure presets and, configure audio DSP with 24 bi-quad filters per channel.

Performance
OMNInet's high speed communication architecture allows control through the network of multi-media signals of up to 1.2Gb/s. The ability to manage the I/O channels on an individual basis, as well as where they are allocated in the bandwidth, allow for the most complex designs to be achieved simply, dynamically and efficiently.

OMNInet can transmit very high-quality audio (24-bit, 48 kHz sample rate) over great distances while preserving the signal-to-noise ratio. This is critical in life-safety applications where clarity of information is essential. Using MPEG-2 video/audio compression techniques drawn from digital set top box technology, OMNInet is able to provide excellent picture and sound quality while maintaining 30 FPS (25 FPS PAL) frame rates. OMNInet's ability to switch and route information seamlessly saves the cost of additional hardware such as matrix switchers and the required home run cabling in conduit.
