SmartBuss is a multi-service, synchronous private network that's designed to provide exceptional performance in a wide variety of applications. SmartBuss is a virtual matrix and its single layer architecture combines multiple audio-video-data services onto a common serial data stream for maximum flexibility. Latency accumulation across the network fabric is minimal and individual byte level routing (any-to-any) is available for demanding applications. Standard network configuration is a dual counter rotating ring topology using Cat5 cabling with 98.304Mb/s data rate. Gigabit fiber optic trunks increase capacity and service area.
All SmartBuss networks are naturally redundant with an asynchronous backhaul to provide seamless service switching whenever there's a communication interruption on the primary buss. Further redundancy is available by returning the network connection from the last SmartBuss node to the first node, forming a dual counter rotating ring topology. When the primary buss is restored the system automatically re-configures to the original state. These dual redundant configurations satisfy EN60849 requirements.
SmartBuss System Integrator
System integrators can purchase complete turn key SmartBuss networks based on the AVIO 14 & AVIO 4 Hubs with multi-service I/O cards along with the AVIO Edge Server offering an additional 8 channels of line level audio I/O.

AVIO 14 Hub is a 3RU high-capacity, high-performance node in the SmartBuss Network that accommodates up to 14 cards including a SmartBuss SB101 Network Card and any combination of 13 media services I/O cards. The Hub provides connectivity for hundreds of video, audio, and data I/O devices.
AVIO 4 Hub is a 1RU node that accommodates 4 cards including a SB101 Network Card and any combination of 3 media services I/O cards.
Media Services I/O Cards are available for 10BaseT Ethernet, NTSC & PAL composite video (MPEG2 compression), line level audio, line level audio output with controllable DSP, AES/EBU audio, slow scan data (RS232, RS485- 2 & 4 wire) contact closure sense & drive and, 2 wire intercom.
Edge Servers 8 line level audio input/outputs. Network indicators provide clear and unmistakable verification of primary versus redundant buss operations and when configuration changes are uploading. Three separate signal level indicators are provided for each channel.
PathMaster is the software application that is supplied free of charge for all SmartBuss systems and enables real time network configuration and monitoring. A dedicated 6.144Mb/s API channel is embedded within the SmartBuss management architecture and the application uses the PC's Ethernet network interface for communications (UDP) with the Control Port on the AVIO Edge Server or SB101 Network modules in AVIO 14 or AVIO 4 Hubs.
